I had the most interesting conversation on Wednesday (12 April) and it was around what DIY means to people now. We’re navigating life after hard lockdown, tentatively stepping into the world again in the ways that we need and would like to. One of the things we’re also very aware of is how companies, brands are journeying with us as we now carefully navigate life on our terms. Now add in our various places that we call ‘sanctuaries’ and you will be able to get an idea of where our head – and heart – space is.
I don’t know about you, but when all you’re looking at most of the time during lockdown are the walls surrounding you or your garden space that you have (if you are fortunate to), you start looking at those spaces differently. South Africans, as with many other nations, did embrace the do-it-yourself (DIY) upgrades to their homes and it is expected that more renovations are coming along this year too, and Builders is being intentional about tapping into the consumer trend of helping to create the space and environment that consumers – that’s you and I – want for their home.

Builders recently ran a survey with a handful of customers to improve the in-store experience. Responses received were remarkably similar with the common theme across all being that customers wanted to feel like they were being taken on a journey, allowing them to experiment with the different options available to them to select the best option for their needs. They wanted to leave a Builders store feeling empowered to make the right purchase decisions for their home renovation needs.

“One of the simplest and most effective ways to transform your home is to use paint. One of the biggest structures in a home are the walls and painting them the right colour can do wonders in transforming the design and feel of your room. Leveraging our customer feedback, we collaborated with Johannesburg born contemporary artist and illustrator Thabang Lehobye to host our Paint DIY event to show how personal spaces can be transformed using colour and texture,” says Janet Booysen, Marketing Executive at Builders.
Thabang will bring an abstract meaning to the process which will help DIY fanatics find creative ways of stretching their buck and transform their spaces and environment #DoItYourWay. Understanding the power that paint has to affect moods, energy and perspectives, Builders recently unveiled a back-to-basics tool at its DIY event to give its customers, the confidence they need for their next painting project.

The beauty of being able to walk into a Builders store; confidently ask the questions that you have; receive good, solid advice and tips; and know that you can handle the DIY project that awaits you at home…with some room for some creative flair as you #DoItYourWay.
It’s your home, your sanctuary, the place you come back to when you’re done doing all that you can. Come back home, your home – it’s certainly time that it feels AND looks like the place you need and deserve. #HeresToHome
